01 / System architecture

Modular and retractable by design

The proposed sail architecture is being developed with modular installation and retraction in mind. The design process considers deck interfaces, stowage requirements, access for maintenance and compatibility with vessel operations.

  • Define vessel interfaces and installation envelopes
  • Assess deployment, retraction and stowage concepts
  • Investigate mechanical loads and integration requirements

02 / Aerodynamics & CFD

Understand the airflow. Inform the design.

Computational fluid dynamics and aerodynamic analysis help explore sail geometry, operating conditions and interactions. Predictions will need to be compared with experimental evidence before performance claims can be established.

  • Explore aerodynamic forces across operating conditions
  • Study sensitivity to geometry and apparent wind
  • Compare model predictions with future test measurements

03 / Actuation, sensors & control

Automation with operations in view

The control concept brings sensing and actuation together to manage sail operation as conditions change. Development will consider operator oversight, system monitoring and responses to abnormal conditions.

  • Investigate wind and system-state sensing
  • Develop control logic and actuation requirements
  • Evaluate operating limits and safe-state behaviour

04 / Operational optimisation

Performance in the context of the vessel

Useful wind assistance depends on more than a sail in isolation. We intend to assess vessel speed, route, weather, propulsion interaction and operational constraints together.

  • Examine route and wind-condition suitability
  • Assess interaction with vessel propulsion demand
  • Account for handling, port access and operating profiles

05 / Development & validation

Evidence before claims.

Our development approach connects simulation, mechanical design and experimental evaluation. No validated fuel-saving figures or commercial deployments are presented at this stage.
